Pared down perfection at Flat Iron steakhouse in Soho
Flat Iron started as a pop up on Redchurch Street of which I oft saw the queues but got no further. Thankfully it now has a place of its own on Beak Street in Soho. Here they do the pared down thing to perfection; from the bare brick walls and solid wooden benches to the two choices on the menu. It’s all about (cheerily and efficiently) serving up the most mouthwatering steak.
On my visits (there have been a few now) there’s been a burger or Waygu steak to opt for (both delicious), but really it’s the Flat Iron steak you come here for. Done to perfection, and only £10. The sides are equally good and the chips (cooked in beef dripping) are my favourite in London.
Flat Iron does carry the obligatory no bookings policy of 2013 but the turn around is always quick and the waiting takes place in their cocktail bar downstairs, not on the street. The drinks are good, the service friendly and warm and if you get a table in the cosy basement you could quite easily forget to venture back upstairs if the host didn’t come and collect you.
